The Office of the Prime Minister today donated 1,000 hoes to veterans in Rukungiri District to support agriculture, which is one of the main activities in the area.
The hoes were received this morning at the district headquarters in Rukungiri Municipality by LCV Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Hillary Agaba, and other district officials.
While receiving the hoes, RDC Steven Nsubuga Bewayo emphasized that the donation was not because veterans cannot afford hoes but to recognize their contributions to the nation.
He urged the veterans not to sell the tools but to use them effectively. He highlighted the concern that government-issued resources are often sold and encouraged the veterans to utilize the hoes for their intended purposes.
LCV Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama advised veterans to use the hoes to cultivate crops like coffee and bananas, which can help improve family incomes, reduce hunger, and alleviate poverty.
He added that, as farming is a cultural practice in Rukungiri District, this donation can contribute to improving agricultural production and livelihoods in the community.
Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Hillary Agaba stated that the distribution plan will be communicated soon, and veterans across the district will receive the hoes as expected.
