Residents of Nyamayenje B in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, were visibly excited after the community’s borehole was repaired, restoring access to clean water after a long period of dysfunction.
The rehabilitation was carried out with support from Council Isaac Atukunda, who is aspiring for the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 elections.
Mutungi Innocent, the LC1 chairperson of Nyamayenje B Cell, welcomed the development, saying it was a major relief for residents who had been relying on contaminated water sources.
Another resident, Byomuhangi Medard, said the restoration of the borehole showed a commitment to the people’s needs.
Residents explained that the broken borehole had forced them to use unsafe water, exposing them to health risks. The fully functional borehole has now improved access to safe water for households in Nyamayenje and surrounding areas.
According to Muhwezi Innocent, the councilor representing Kagashe Ward and a representative of Council Isaac, repairing the borehole involved significant work and expenses.
He noted that Council Isaac’s broader objective was to rehabilitate water points across the municipality to enhance sanitation and support residents’ health.
While residents praised the initiative, others urged that the momentum for infrastructure rehabilitation be maintained across all divisions in Rukungiri Municipality to ensure sustained community development.
