Residents of Nyakishenyi subcounty were left in shock over the weekend following the tragic death of Tumuhamye Emmanuel, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyakabungo Cell, who was struck by lightning at a neighbor’s home on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at around 5:00 PM at the home of his neighbor, Yoaninah “Yowaninah,” where Tumuhamye had sought shelter for himself and his cattle during heavy rains and thunderstorms. Tumuhamye, who had served as a dedicated leader in the community and a longstanding pillar of Katonya Church of Uganda under Nyakisorooza Archdeaconry for over 30 years, succumbed to the lightning strike.

Alongside Tumuhamye, two other individuals were affected. Tr. Love Gyeri Ndyemire, a teacher at Nyakishenyi Brain Trust, recovered and was released, while Sonia, the daughter of Mr. Kasinzi Niwagaba Enock, was hospitalized at Kisiizi Hospital for further treatment.

The loss has left a deep emotional impact on the residents of Nyakishenyi, who remember Tumuhamye as a committed leader and influential community figure. Speaking at the funeral, Mr. Wednesday Twinomujuni, the Nyakishenyi LC3 Chairperson and close friend of the late Tumuhamye, described his passing as a significant blow to the community. He praised Tumuhamye for his guidance in political matters and development initiatives, and called for unity and support for the bereaved family.

Tumuhamye Emmanuel’s body was laid to rest today at his home in Rujoka-Nyakabungo Cell, Kisya Parish, Nyakishenyi Subcounty. Residents and community leaders gathered to pay their last respects, offering prayers for the deceased and support to his grieving family.

His passing is mourned by many, leaving a legacy of service and dedication to both his community and the Church.
