Nyakagyeme Sub County Chairperson Jaston Mubangizi and Sub County Chief Mrs. Pamela Kyokutamba have raised concerns over the increasing cases of high-level robbery in the sub-county, putting residents’ safety at risk.
This was revealed during a community meeting (Baraza) held at Nyakinengo Church of Uganda, where residents and leaders convened to discuss the challenges affecting their communities.
Speaking at the meeting, Mubangizi expressed deep concern over the rise in high-grade theft, which has left residents in fear. He recounted a recent incident captured on CCTV cameras where thieves broke into several shops in Kasoroza Trading Center. Fortunately, two suspects have since been arrested. Mubangizi noted that the arrested individuals are Baganda by tribe and urged residents to report new members in the community to assist security teams in tracking suspects if crimes occur.
He also revealed plans to renovate sub-county buildings to give them a new look and commended Madam Pamela Kyokutamba for her hard work and transparency.
Mubangizi was responding to concerns raised by Ronald Manyindo, a resident who criticized security personnel for allegedly releasing suspects immediately, even when there is clear evidence to prosecute them. Manyindo also raised concerns about water scarcity in Nyakinengo Parish.
In response, Rukungiri District NWSC Manager Madam Barbra Amumpeire assured the concerned residents that the corporation has already constructed a water reservoir tank in Omukaterero Kengoma to supply water to the parishes of Kitimba, Kabwooma, Nyakinengo, Rushasha, and Kahoko.
As the meeting progressed, some residents concluded that before the NRM primary elections, issues such as water scarcity, electricity, and poor roads would likely be addressed.
