Residents of Nyabubaare Parish in Bwambara Sub County, Rukungiri district, have voiced their dissatisfaction with the poor condition of the roads and bridges in their area.
According to the residents, the Ahananga-Nyamikuuku road and the Bwambara-Kinyamatojo road are in particularly bad shape, which has disrupted service delivery in the region. They expressed frustration with local leaders who solicit their votes with empty promises, only to fail to address the road issues.
Ahimbisibwe Cleophas, a boda boda cyclist, told our reporter that transporting people and goods to market centers has become extremely difficult due to the poor road conditions. Cleophas mentioned that when tractors are brought in to fix the roads, the work is often substandard, making it hard for them to transport people and goods efficiently.
Rukundo Onesmus, the area councilor of Nyabubaare Parish, blamed Sub County leaders for poor planning and misallocation of funds meant for road renovation. Onesmus noted that Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Chairperson LC 5 for Rukungiri district, visited them and promised that the tractor currently working in Ruhinda Sub County would be sent to Bwambara Sub County next.
However, Onesmus pointed out that even when tractors are sent, the work done is often inadequate, involving only bush clearing and leaving the roads still impassable. He challenged district leaders to monitor the road renovations to ensure they are done properly and last longer.
Attempts to reach the Sub County and district leadership for comments on the road issues were unsuccessful as their known phone numbers were not available.
