The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) Party Deputy President in charge of Western Uganda, Ms. Jacklyn Jolly Tukamushaba, has tasked party coordinators in Kigezi to safeguard their votes and uproot the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the region.

Tukamushaba made these remarks today during the election of NUP structures for Kabale District, held at the party offices on Nyerere Avenue in the Central Division of Kabale Municipality.

She stated that Kigezi has been a vote-rigging hub for the NRM, but with the formation of NUP structures at the grassroots level, the party will be able to monitor and protect its votes from the polling station level.

Tukamushaba also called on the Electoral Commission to remain independent to ensure free and fair elections.

Among the elected leaders, Derrick Katebire was elected as the Kabale District NUP Chairperson, with Augustine Rukundo as his Vice Chairperson.

Luke Twesigye was elected General Secretary, Cleophas Atuheire as Publicity Secretary, and Devis Kabyesiza as Finance Secretary.
