NTUNGAMO– Residents from Parishes of Kamahuri and Kyafoora in Rugarama North Sub-county Ntungamo district are blaming the government for ignoring them ever since they were hit by heavy hailstorms that destroyed their crops.

On 19th March 2023, the two parishes were greatly hit by heavy hail storms that destroyed their gardens putting their lives at stake.

According to the letter seen by our reporter which the Ntungamo district Chief Administrative Officer sent to the office of the Prime minister in the quest for relief, 422 households were affected.

The letter says that the strong wind affected crops that include: Maze, coffee, Banana plantation, beans, coffee, and Ground nuts, among many others.

Residents say that after this tragedy, their Sub county chief Eliasaph Tabaro and the Sub-county Agriculture officer, on the 5th and 6th of April this year wrote to the Ntungamo district CAO and Agriculture officer respectively, reporting the matter.

They say that ever since they wrote the letters, no response has been received from the office of the prime minister.

They are calling on the government especially the office of the Prime minister to consider supporting them with food relief and seeds.
