RUKUNGIRI– Rukungiri district will benefit from the first phase of mosquito nets distribution in the 4th campaign to fight malaria in Uganda.
Under this campaign, the ministry targets to have all citizens encouraged to sleep under mosquito nets to fight malaria and reduce its prevalence rate by 60%.
Speaking with our reporter on Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Muhwezi Edison Mpilime the malaria focal person in Rukungiri district asked the people of Rukungiri to embrace the initiative and urged them to take part in the process of data collection by proving clear and required information about their homestead for better accountability.
He called upon all people to work hand in hand with health workers in the fight against malaria. Dr. Mpilime added that at least 19% of Ugandans get malaria every day of which 5% die. In so, he urged all people to always sleep under mosquito nets and try to destroy mosquito habitats by clearing bushes around homes and draining stagnant water.
Commenting about malaria in pregnant mothers, Asiimwe Constance a midwife at Bwambara health center III asked them to sleep under the mosquito nets for the safety of their unborn babies.
