Farmers in Ntungamo are rejoicing over the surge in coffee prices, anticipating even further increases to meet their needs.

Led by the Ntungamo Coffee Growers’ Cooperative Union, farmers are confident that this season’s rise in coffee prices will pave the way for significant success.

Norman Musiika, the Chairperson of the Union, expressed this optimism during the union’s annual general meeting, highlighting the expanding union and increased coffee trading through cooperative channels as sources of joy for farmers.

Speaking alongside Musiika, Hellen Sabbath Rugasira, the Union’s General Secretary, shared her optimism regarding the newfound organization among coffee farmers and the positive impact it will have on their development.

Since 2018, farmers in Ntungamo have been steadily organizing themselves through a union comprising over 200 cooperatives, including those from neighboring districts. This collective effort has led to government initiatives, such as the construction of a hulling center and other essential infrastructure, benefiting the farming community.
