The deputy inspector General of Government Ms Annie Muheirwe on Wednesday arrested the Ntungamo acting district engineer Mr Charles Kusemererwa and the district roads supervisor Mr Moses Twiine after they failed to explain shoddy works on two key roads in the district.

The two roads work on the 2021/2022 financial year are Omungyenyi- Kagugu Road in Rushenyi County and Kagarama- Rwamabondo Road in Kajara County. The two roads were worked on using funds from the Ministry of Works however generating debate over the amount of money allocated against the work done on the roads.

Muheirwe said the IG’s observation was that the money used to construct the two roads was misappropriated and the road was not properly done.

The IGG also summoned the district water Engineer Mr. Prosper Butubura and the civil Engineer Mr. Richard Kayima to record statements with police after they failed to turn up for the roads inspections yet they were in office when the works were being done.

The two roads with a total of 32.7 Km were worked on for a tune of over Ushs 600M however residents and leaders claim the bills of quantities were never followed.

On inspection the IGG found that the width of the road had been narrowed, culvert bridges poorly constructed, drainages poorly opened, and murram that was to be applied on all sections of the road was not applied among other issues.
