Bishop Stuart University students in Mbarara were recently engaged in a program aimed at providing them with valuable insights into career development and financial management skills, as part of the annual NSSF Career Expo initiative.

The initiative focuses on equipping university students with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their employment prospects, foster entrepreneurship opportunities, and improve financial literacy to promote a culture of saving.

During the event held at Bishop Stuart University hall and organized by NSSF, Gershom Atukunda, the Vice Chancellor of the university, encouraged students to explore their passions and seek fulfillment in their careers beyond traditional job roles.

Asiimwe Lydia Sabiiti, the CEO and founder of Me Voice, an organization promoting motivational speaking and team building, urged graduating students to embrace self-employment and utilize even the smallest capital available to kickstart their entrepreneurial journeys, emphasizing its growth potential.

The expo, expected to draw over 5000 students from nine universities nationwide, is a collaborative effort between NSSF, the National Media Group, and Absa Bank.

Since its inception, more than 44,700 young individuals enrolled with NSSF as university students have collectively saved over ugx35.3 billion over the past decade.

This year’s expo, themed ‘Discovering Your Purpose’, commenced on April 3rd at Makerere Business School and will continue until April 26th, 2024, spanning across various universities throughout the country.
