Fred Mwesigye, an official from the Ministry of Education and Sports and the chief fundraiser at a recent event aimed at purchasing 30 beds for St. John’s Primary School in Kyakaatara, Rubindi sub-county, Mbarara District, emphasized the need for leaders to refrain from engaging in divisive politics that hinder community and national development.
Mwesigye highlighted that while he strives to support the community, some political figures undermine such initiatives, fearing potential challenges to their political positions. He urged leaders to embrace developmental efforts brought forth by well-meaning individuals and to eschew political manipulation.
Fr. Julius Caesar Kamukama, the assistant parish priest of Rubindi Parish, echoed similar sentiments during a fundraising mass at St. John’s Catholic Church. He urged leaders to move away from enticing constituents with trivial offerings and instead focus on empowering them to develop self-sufficiency.
During the fundraising event, a total of 2.6 million cash was collected, alongside pledges amounting to 4.1 million for the cause.
Hon. Bazil Batarringaya Rwankwene, the Member of Parliament for Kashaari North constituency, who was absent from the event, had previously contributed 100 iron sheets and mathematical sets for P7 candidates to the school in October last year.
