A section of National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Rwampara District has called on the Woman MP, Hon. Molly Asiimwe Musiime, to contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections. This follows her narrow defeat in the recently concluded NRM primaries, where she lost to Annah Kansiime in a tightly contested race.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Mbarara City, the leaders praised Hon. Asiimwe for spearheading numerous development initiatives that have transformed Rwampara District. They cited her efforts in lobbying for seed schools, improving road infrastructure, and championing projects such as the construction of a hatchery and provision of piped water.

Mwizi–Kabura Town Council Mayor, David Owobushorozi, commended Hon. Asiimwe for her contributions to the district, saying her projects are already improving the quality of life for residents.

“She has lobbied for essential projects such as piped water and seed schools, which are transforming the lives of our people,” Owobushorozi said. He further appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to support Asiimwe’s independent bid, stressing that the people of Rwampara are ready to stand by her.

Amon Niwarimpa, the NRM Secretary for Bugamba Sub-county, echoed this call, noting that it is not unusual for party members to run as independents. “Hon. Asiimwe has faithfully served the party and her constituents for a long time. She deserves a chance to seek re-election and complete the projects she started,” Niwarimpa emphasized.

Speaking to the media recently, Hon. Asiimwe reaffirmed her commitment to finishing key development projects in the district. She pointed out that major road works such as the Nyakiraguju–Bugamba–Kitwe and Ruti–Mwizi–Kabuyanda roads, which are included in the National Development Plan IV, have not yet been tarmacked.

She also revealed that the Mwizi–Kabura water project, a vital supply system for the area, is scheduled for implementation in the coming quarter. In addition, Asiimwe said she has successfully lobbied for several seed schools that are still awaiting construction.

Beyond infrastructure, the MP highlighted ongoing community-based initiatives such as the energy-saving stoves project, currently piloted in one parish, with plans to expand district-wide. She also cited the establishment of a hatchery project aimed at boosting poultry farming in the area.

Hon. Asiimwe stressed that her decision to seek re-election is driven by the need to see these projects through to completion, ensuring that Rwampara residents benefit from her development agenda.
