The North Kigezi Diocese witnessed a significant spiritual milestone on Sunday as Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi, officially ordained one deacon, Mr. Moses Tugume, and 20 priests from various archdeaconries across the diocese. The ceremony at Kinyansano Cathedral during a youth conference was marked by solemnity, celebration, and calls to deeper spiritual commitment.

Bishop Asiimwe emphasized the importance of dedication and sacrifice in the Christian faith, urging the youth and newly installed clergy to surrender their entire lives and bodies to Christ. “Your body is God’s temple and a key instrument in glorifying Him. Sacrifice it to Him as a weapon against sin,” the Bishop stated.

The bishop also acknowledged the contributions of retiring archdeacons, describing them as “true generals of God” whose service has been invaluable to the diocese. He praised their dedication and urged that their departure from office be celebrated as a testament to a well-served life in God’s vineyard.

Rev. Canon Yerokam Kamomo, who delivered the sermon, underscored the theme of surrendering one’s life to God. He urged the youth to reject sinful behaviors such as alcoholism, adultery, and disobedience, encouraging them instead to embrace humility and loyalty to their Creator. “The life you think is yours must be owned by God for you to find true success and purpose,” he said.

Rev. Canon James Busingye, one of the retiring archdeacons, reflected on his service, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in spreading the Gospel. He assured the congregation that, despite retiring from official duties, he and his colleagues would remain active in preaching and spiritual revival.

In recognition of their service, the retiring archdeacons were awarded UGX 5 million each, while the newly installed priests received UGX 1 million each as a token of appreciation.

The youth conference, which commenced on Sunday, continues at Kinyansano Cathedral with more sessions focusing on spiritual growth and renewal.
