The North Kigezi diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, has urged Christians to thank God for the gift of life and use it to support the work of God.

He made the call during a thanksgiving service organized by all diocesan lay canons, aimed at raising funds for the ongoing construction of Emmanuel Cathedral.

Bishop Onesmus emphasized that life is priceless, noting that nothing could be more expensive than the oxygen we breathe. He encouraged believers to use this gift of life to support church projects and servants of God.

The Bishop also outlined the roles of lay canons, which include supporting church projects, empowering education and health initiatives, and preserving church history. He said canons are selected based on their zeal for God, talents such as singing, and their commitment to the faith, urging them to be exemplary to other Christians.

During the event, Canon Benon Kwikiriza Baabo, chairperson of the council of canons, said the thanksgiving was organized to accelerate the construction of Emmanuel Cathedral. He commended Bishop Onesmus for his determination to complete the project, which inspired the canons to contribute.

Mr. Benon Matiita, the head of laity in the diocese, applauded the canons for holding the first-ever thanksgiving of its kind, revealing that they raised UGX 60,355,000. He said the funds will go towards roofing the cathedral, a task they expect to complete before the end of December.
