North Kigezi Diocese successfully convened its 22nd two-day residential Synod at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano, bringing together parish representatives, clergy, and Bishop-appointed nominees to discuss governance and administrative matters within the Diocese.
The Synod, chaired by the Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe the Bishop of NKD, focused on the selection of key diocesan leadership.
During the sessions held from March 20th to 21st 2026, participants elected Canon Dr. Johnson Byabashaija as Head of Laity and Ven. Capt. Jallon Atusinguza as Head of the House of Clergy.
Bishop Asiimwe also announced his nominees, including Rev. Canon Elisha Waswa as Bishop’s Commissary. Members approved the appointments of Canon Agaba Maguru as Diocesan Chancellor and Counsel Isaac Atukunda as Diocesan Deputy Vice Chancellor.
In addition to leadership selections, the Synod granted parish status to three churches: St. James Nyamizi C.O.U, St. James Nyaburondo C.O.U, and St. John’s Katungu C.O.U, following earlier approval by the Diocesan Council.
