Territorial police in Rukiga District are investigating the shocking death of a 46-year-old night watchman, Moses Byekwaso, a resident of Maheru Cell in Nyarurambi Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-County. Byekwaso, who worked as a security guard at a shop and bar owned by Agatha Kyomugisha, was found dead under mysterious and brutal circumstances.
According to reports, Byekwaso reported for duty on the evening of November 5, 2024, at around 6:00 PM. Later that night, at approximately 11:00 PM, the shop and bar owner, Kyomugisha, closed her business and left for home, leaving Byekwaso to guard the premises. Tragically, it appears that unknown assailants attacked the watchman during the night.
Authorities revealed that Byekwaso had been assaulted, sustaining severe injuries, including a cut to his right ankle inflicted with a sharp object. He was also strangled and subsequently hanged using a television wire tied to the window burglar bars. The gruesome scene was discovered the following morning, prompting Kyomugisha to notify the police.
Police officers, led by Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, visited the scene to gather evidence. A blood-stained panga, believed to be one of the murder weapons, was recovered and exhibited for further analysis. Byekwaso’s body, which bore visible bruises, was transported to Kisizi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing as police work to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
