Residents of Nyakabingo Cell in Bunono Parish, Nyarushanje Subcounty, Rukungiri District were left in shock on Wednesday evening after an unidentified woman abandoned a newborn baby girl in a waterway.
According to local reports, at around 8 PM, residents heard the cries of a newborn coming from a nearby bush. Upon investigation, they discovered the baby had been abandoned at the scene, and the mother had disappeared.
Locals suspect the mother could be a young girl from the area who may have had an unwanted pregnancy and chose to abandon the baby.
Upon discovering the child, the residents immediately informed the local area chairperson, Mr. Bariyo. In collaboration with community members, he arranged for the baby to be taken to Kisizi Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical care. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to identify and locate the mother responsible for this act.
