The new Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Mbarara, Ms. Nanziri Amina Rukanga, has emphasized the need for teamwork to address insecurity issues in the district.

She clarified that concerns such as gender-based violence, which is prevalent in the district, will be addressed in collaboration with the district security committee by engaging affected families. She also welcomed families facing such challenges to the RDC’s office for assistance.

Ms. Nanziri Amina made these remarks at the RDC’s office in Bwizibwera during the official handover ceremony, where outgoing RDC Turyabagyenyi Emmanuel Kateera was transferred to Lwengo district as the new RDC.

In her speech, Nanziri Amina reminded parents of the importance of education, urging those who are not sending their children to school to do so, as education is key to their children’s future. She promised to collaborate with school stakeholders, including district leadership, to mobilize for an intensive sensitization campaign targeting parents.

Outgoing RDC Turyabagyenyi Emmanuel Kateera, reflecting on his one year and eight months of service in Mbarara, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for appointing him. He said he enjoyed working with the people of Mbarara, who are predominantly farmers in need of security for their property and livestock.

Turyabagyenyi welcomed his successor, Nanziri Amina Rukanga, who previously served as the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Kampala, to her new rural posting in Mbarara. He handed over a well-documented report detailing ongoing government projects and other significant initiatives that require follow-up. He also appreciated the cordial working relationship with the district leadership, from the local council level to Parliament.
