The Rukungiri District Civil Engineer, Julius Bagira Byakurema, has called on the public to complement government services in times of emergency.
He made the call today, 9th April 2026, while disbursing culverts for the construction of Ndago Bridge, located at the boundary of Ndago and Ruyonza Parishes, specifically in the cells of Kyanyamaishwa and Kiburasano respectively, in Nyarushanje Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
Ndago Bridge collapsed at the beginning of the year, paralyzing transport and communication, which affected service delivery in areas such as health, trade, education, and general movement.
Julius Bagira highlighted that calamities often occur after budgets have been allocated, making it time-consuming to petition the Ministry of Works and Transport. He therefore urged the public to complement government efforts during emergencies.
The Chairperson LC2 Ndago Parish, Kajura Deogratius, expressed relief upon receiving the culverts and encouraged residents to embrace communal work scheduled for Monday, 13th April 2026, to provide labor for installing the culverts and restoring the road’s functionality.
The Secretary for Publicity of Ndago Parish, Nickson Muyambi, also known as Enkuduman, commended leaders for their joint efforts in advocating for the culverts and called on locals to participate in the communal work on Monday, 13th April 2026, to ensure successful completion of the project.
Residents, including Kasigazi Rwangire, Resta Habaasa, and Mercy Twesigomwe, highlighted the challenges they have faced since the bridge collapsed. They appreciated the government’s intervention and welcomed the communal work aimed at restoring the bridge
