Local leaders and residents of Nyabushenyi parish in Nyarushanje Sub County, Rukungiri district are currently grappling with an unfamiliar eye ailment that poses a serious threat to their lives.

This peculiar disease, characterized by symptoms such as eye swelling, reddening, and itching, was first identified in their community a few weeks ago. Residents disclosed that the most affected individuals contracted it during the burial ceremony of a resident.

Pauson further noted that some affected individuals have sought medical help at hospitals, but he appealed to the government and the Ministry of Health to address the issue urgently before any fatalities occur.
Efforts to contact the responsible health officials in Rukungiri district were unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
