A mysterious and deadly disease has erupted in Rutookye Town Council and Rwoburunga Subcounty, Mitooma District, claiming the life of a local butcher and leaving residents and health officials on high alert. The outbreak, which began approximately one week ago, has caused widespread concern as its origin and nature remain unknown.

Eyewitnesses and victims in the area confirmed to Boona Radio that the disease has already claimed one life. In response, a health team led by the Mitooma District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Byamugisha Sadique, alongside the Muruka chief, visited the affected area to conduct investigations.

Lemigious Tumuhimbise, the Rutookye Town Council councilor, expressed deep concern over the potential spread of the disease. He revealed that residents, victims, and health officials are all under threat, particularly because relatives and close friends of the victims continue to move around, especially at night, despite being instructed to remain at home for quarantine. Tumuhimbise urged the community to adhere to the health officers’ directives to prevent further spread.

Symptoms and Confusion Over Diagnosis
Affected individuals, particularly animal slaughterers, reported developing small and large bumps on their skin. When they sought medical attention, doctors were unable to identify the infection, speculating that it could be an allergic reaction. The victims have since appealed to the government health team for urgent intervention to save their lives.

Health Officials Respond
Dr. Byamugisha Sadique, the Mitooma DHO, confirmed awareness of the outbreak and stated that a veterinary officer has been dispatched to collect samples from both animals and patients. These samples will be tested to determine the nature of the disease. Dr. Sadique also urged the public to remain vigilant and follow disease prevention and control measures to curb further spread.

As the situation unfolds, residents are anxiously awaiting the test results and further guidance from health authorities. The community has been advised to avoid unnecessary movement and report any suspicious symptoms to health officials immediately.

The outbreak has left the district in a state of fear, with many hoping for swift action to identify and contain the mysterious disease before it claims more lives.
