Listeners and fans of Western Uganda’s leading radio station, 91.8 Boona FM, based in Rukungiri District, are set to experience the thrill of the region’s biggest annual event, Ekigutuuro. The 8th edition of the festival, dubbed Ekigutuuro Ruhenda Myaambi, was officially launched at a press conference held at Platinum Classic Suites in Buyanja, Rukungiri District. The event is scheduled to take place on July 12th, 2025 at Rukungiri Main Stadium.
Ekigutuuro, a festival that typically draws thousands of partygoers, celebrates Boona FM’s 8th anniversary. According to Mr. Maanige Wenceslas, the station director, preparations are underway to ensure this year’s edition surpasses previous ones in excitement and entertainment. He described the carnival as “the party of the year in Western Uganda,” promising a memorable experience for attendees.
This year’s Ekigutuuro will feature a variety of activities, including sports events such as bicycle races, eating competitions, and tug of war. Local and national performers will also provide entertainment. Mr. Maanige revealed that all competitions will have prizes for winners, with the bicycle race winner taking home 500,000 shillings. Additionally, all participants in the race will receive rewards.
Mr. Kasozi Michael, the marketing manager, urged the public to book their tickets early and invited corporate companies to support the event. He announced that MTN, Pepsi, and Airtel have already registered as sponsors. These companies will engage in various activities before and during the event, including market activations across the Western Region.
Bob Rumanzi, Boona FM’s chief editor and coordinator of early bird tickets, confirmed that early bird tickets remain priced at 8,000 shillings. He added that the ticketing system has been digitized to streamline entry and avoid overcrowding at the gates, a challenge experienced in previous editions.
Ekigutuuro continues to grow in popularity, cementing its status as a must-attend event in Western Uganda. With enhanced preparations and a lineup of exciting activities, this year’s edition promises to be bigger and better than ever.
