President Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has cautioned Ugandans against joining politics as a means of earning a living, emphasizing that leadership is a service to the community, not a personal career for wealth accumulation.

Addressing journalists from the Ankole sub-region at his country home in Rwakitura, Nyabushozi County, Kiruhura District, where he concluded his regional political campaign tour, the NRM presidential candidate said that leaders must first be economically stable before seeking public office.

“A hungry leader cannot lead people to prosperity. Those intending to join politics should first eradicate poverty from their homes,” Museveni advised.

The President also called on business stakeholders to look beyond Uganda’s internal market by strengthening regional and international trade to secure better prices and expand economic opportunities.

Museveni highlighted several key development pillars established under the NRM government, including peace, economic transformation, wealth creation, ICT development, and the growing services sector, which he said have laid a strong foundation for national progress.

He urged journalists to use their platforms responsibly to educate the public on socio-economic transformation, rather than promoting lifestyles that do not contribute to income generation.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, commended the President for concluding his campaign tour in Ankole and pledged overwhelming support for the NRM ahead of the January 15, 2026 general elections, expressing confidence in a decisive victory.
