Kanungu Deputy RDC issues a stern warning against illegal holiday teaching, exposes silence of education officials.
The Deputy RDC of Kanungu District, Dr. Gad Rugaju Ahimbisibwe, has issued a strong warning to all headteachers to immediately stop illegal holiday teaching and coaching, citing violations of Ministry of Education and Sports policies.
Dr. Ahimbisibwe issued this warning through a message shared on his social media handles, revealing that most schools in Kanungu and across the country have commenced holiday teaching and coaching, which directly contravenes the official MoES school calendar. “The school calendar is not a suggestion; it is a law,” Dr. Ahimbisibwe said.
Moreover, he highlighted that children need rest for proper physical and mental development, noting that such teaching disrupts national curriculum pacing and quality assurance.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahimbisibwe warned that failure to comply will attract severe penalties, including removal from the payroll under the Education Act 2008, immediate school closure, and other disciplinary actions. He therefore called for immediate adherence to protect the integrity of Uganda’s education system.
He also acknowledged the silence from education officials such as DEOs and inspectors, attributing it to conflicts of interest and fear of political backlash from elite parents demanding coaching.
