Police in Rukungiri District have arrested two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of 28-year-old Denis Atuhaire, a resident of Kateramo Village, Bugangari Parish in Bugangari Sub County.
According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the incident is believed to have occurred during the night of 19th July 2025 at an unknown time. The arrested suspects have been identified as Twesigomwe Brian, a 29-year-old boda boda rider, and 53-year-old Kamusiime Justine, both residents of the same village as the deceased.
Atuhaire was reportedly last seen alive around 8:00 PM at a party hosted by a neighbor, Alex Ngabirano. The report was made by his grandmother, Tibivamunda Dinavence, who said she returned home around midnight to find the back door open. She found Atuhaire lying on his bed face-down but assumed he was asleep and went to sleep herself in the next room.
Shockingly, at around 7:00 AM the following morning, she discovered Atuhaire’s head had been brutally shattered, with blood stains visible on the bedding. She immediately informed the area chairman, Kubiriba Odomaro, who advised her to report to police.
Police registered the case at Bugangari Police Station and visited the scene for documentation. The body was taken to Bugangari Health Center IV mortuary for a postmortem, as investigations into the motive of the murder continue.
ASP Maate confirmed the arrests were made to aid with ongoing investigations.
“Inquiries are still ongoing,” he added.
