Police in Rukungiri District are investigating a suspected murder case following the death of a 50-year-old woman under unclear but violent circumstances.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 8th April 2025 at around 3:00 PM in Kashekye Cell, Eastern Ward, Bikurungu Town Council, where the deceased, identified as Auma Doreen, a peasant and resident of the area, was allegedly assaulted to death.

According to a statement issued by ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, the report was filed by RO 14977 Lt. Ogwanga Tokwiny Richard, a 40-year-old UPDF soldier attached to the 19th Battalion in Nchwera Barracks, Rwenshama, Rukungiri District. Lt. Ogwanga is the brother of the deceased.

Initial reports suggested that Auma had been struck by lightning and thunder. However, upon receiving the news, Lt. Ogwanga proceeded to his sister’s residence to verify the information. While en route, a resident (identity withheld) informed him that the death was a result of an assault.

Further inquiries revealed that Arimpisya Arthur Esau allegedly attacked Auma Doreen after accusing her of insulting his father, identified as Karuhize Yoramu. Also mentioned in the police report is Kyomukama Moreen, who, along with the other two suspects, has since been arrested to assist with investigations.

The police, including the District Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), homicide detectives, and the territorial police, visited and documented the crime scene. The body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary, where a postmortem examination confirmed internal bleeding resulting from the assault as the cause of death.

The case is currently being handled as murder at CPS Rukungiri, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Police urge members of the public to desist from acts of violence and to resolve conflicts through peaceful and lawful means.

This is so bad news, especially from my own town council. However, I highly condemn murder and violent acts.
And, I urge the authorities to do thorough investigations and decide rightfully.

The police should investigate properly such that the alleged criminals should be given death penalty or life imprisonment, because, its too shame to kill a person even if he or she doesn’t have his or her relatives.
