The proponents of the motion to censure the four embattled commissioners of Parliament have submitted their 189 collected signatures to the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, this evening.

Gathering these signatures took three months to reach the required number of MPs to formally notify the Clerk about the censure motion. The Clerk will now verify the signatures to determine if they qualify for parliamentary debate.

Leading the censure motion, Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo, along with supporters including Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Sewungu, Aringa South MP Arion Odria, and Kalungu East MP Francis Katabzi, delivered the signatures. Ssekikubo stated that the Speaker of Parliament is expected to convene a sitting within 14 days to discuss the motion. He also indicated that the embattled commissioners should consider resigning before MPs take further action.

Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Sewungu emphasized that the motion aims to restore the tarnished image of Parliament. Tororo District Woman MP Sarah Opendi added that the process of collecting signatures was challenging, noting that some commissioners attempted to tamper with the documents.

The MPs have also requested the Speaker to address the removal of barricades on roads leading to Parliament, which were put in place following attempts by corruption activists to access the Parliament. Aringa South MP Arion Odria provided this explanation.
