Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, the Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, commended the Lions Club of Rukungiri for its outstanding global contributions. Dr. Rutahigwa made these remarks during the official visit of the Governor of Lions Club District 411B to oversee the confirmation of new members. The event took place at Sena Grand Hotel along Republic Road in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, on Sunday, December 3, 2023.

Dr. Rutahigwa revealed that he was one of the original founders of the Lions Club, which had faced challenges and collapsed. However, since its revival, the club has achieved global recognition, boasting a significant membership and successfully fulfilling its core objectives.

He highlighted that a majority of Lions Club members in Rukungiri come from professional backgrounds, including health workers, teachers, and business professionals. Dr. Rutahigwa urged these members to extend the spirit of service beyond themselves and embody the values of the Lions Club in their workplaces.

Dr. Stanley Bubikire, the Lions Club Governor for District 411B in Uganda, challenged members to set and achieve goals outlined in the district’s action plan swiftly. These goals include addressing disasters and meeting the basic needs of the less fortunate.

Kyomukama Geoffrey, the Chairperson LC5 for Rukungiri, praised the commendable work carried out by the Lions Club in the district and encouraged them to maintain their efforts. Conerius Byarugaba, the President of Lions Club Rukungiri, expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm and cooperation exhibited by members and called for continuous determination.

The day’s activities began in the mid-morning at the Bridge of Hope Orphanage in Kabashaki Cell, Central Ward, Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District. Members planted five fruit trees and donated clothes, soap, and various food items, including sugar, soda, and bread. Subsequently, the Lions Club delegation visited Karoli Lwanga Nyakibale Hospital, where they donated 48 eye infection glasses and planted a fruit tree.
