Retired Captain Hon. Dononzio Kahonda Mugabe, the Ruhinda South Member of Parliament in Mitooma District, has urged parents to provide accommodation for teachers to ensure the quality education of their children.
This was part of his remarks today, Saturday, 27th July 2024, while officiating at a fundraising event organized at Kabira Central Primary School in Kabira Town Council, Mitooma District, to raise funds for the construction of staff quarters.
Hon. Mugabe emphasized that the government often deploys teachers from distant areas, whose salaries do not cover the costs of renting or daily transport. He urged parents not to rely solely on the government and to take ownership of their schools.
Hon. Mugabe further urged parents to avoid inducements for motivating children, describing it as early corruption, which has worsened the situation. CUE… DONONZIO KABIRA RR.
Hon. Juliet Agasha Bashisha, the Mitooma District Woman Member of Parliament, praised the dedication of teachers in the district to improving school standards. She assured continued support for school development and contributed 20 bags of cement.
Venerable Steven Asingwire, the Archdeacon of Kabira Archdeaconry, commended the cooperation between school authorities and the church in creating a conducive learning environment. He assured transparency in the utilization of funds, highlighting the trustworthy headteacher.
Michael Kasigazi, the Mayor of Kabira Town Council, expressed gratitude, noting that despite the challenging conditions, schools are excelling. He called on parents to stop relying solely on the government and to sustain their schools for better academic standards.
Edwin Mwesigwa, the Head Teacher of Kabira Central Primary School, expressed excitement and relief, stating that they have been facing a shortage of staff accommodation.
The function raised 22,100,000/= and 78 bags of cement. Hon. Dononzio Kahonda Mugabe committed to roofing the staff quarters to be constructed.
