Hon. Byarugaba Alex Bakunda, the Member of Parliament for Isingiro South, Isingiro District, has urged men to respect and support women in economic investments as a strategic approach to fostering sustainable development and community security.
Speaking during International Women’s Day celebrations at the annual general meeting of Burebero SACCO branch members in Kajaho, Kikagate, Isingiro South, Byarugaba emphasized the importance of trust and transparency between spouses, particularly when applying for bank loans. He advised men to involve their wives in financial decisions to ensure better planning and timely loan repayments, thereby avoiding defaults.
He further highlighted that building trust and confidence within marriage requires mutual respect and satisfaction in conjugal rights, reinforcing love and harmony in relationships.
Byarugaba also cautioned the public about the risks of loan defaults, which can lead to the confiscation of property used as collateral by financial institutions, affecting both the borrower and their guarantors.
Praising Burebero SACCO for offering loans at an affordable two percent declining interest rate, he encouraged members to adhere to repayment schedules to ensure the institution’s continued growth and sustainability.
Additionally, Byarugaba warned money lenders against charging exorbitant interest rates, stating that their dominance would diminish as the government injects substantial funds into the Parish Development Model (PDM) program, with each parish expected to receive over one billion shillings.
Burebero SACCO Chairperson Hategyeka expressed gratitude to the people of Isingiro South and neighboring areas for embracing the SACCO’s financial services, which have enabled them to invest in economic programs, thereby fostering development in the region.
