The Member of Parliament for Kashari North in Mbarara District, Hon. Bataringaya Bazil Rwankwene Omwonyo, has launched a street lighting initiative aimed at reducing crime in dark areas.

The project commenced with the installation of six streetlights in Kyenshama Trading Centre, Kyenshama Town Council, Kashari North. According to Hon. Bataringaya, the full street lighting project is estimated to cost UGX 5 million and will be officially commissioned and handed over to the community upon completion. He urged residents to take ownership of the project by forming a street electricity management committee to guard against vandalism and ensure proper maintenance.

During the same function, Hon. Bataringaya also donated 1.6 kilometers of water pipes, valued at UGX 9 million, to extend water from Kyenshama Dam to the trading center. He noted that this intervention is aimed at saving women and children from traveling long distances to fetch water and protecting them from risks such as sexual harassment.

Hon. Bataringaya explained that the decision to install streetlights was driven by the steady growth of Kyenshama as a trading hub, where residents currently lack the capacity to install a proper street lighting system.

On the subject of rising political ambitions, Bataringaya urged the public to welcome all aspiring leaders but to critically evaluate their messages. He also appealed to all political aspirants to remain calm and avoid using abusive language that may provoke public anger and lead to unnecessary conflicts.
