Police in Kanungu district have launched investigations into the gruesome mob killing of a 35-year-old man, Emmy Busingye, a resident of Rukarara village in Kihembe Parish, Kihembe Sub County.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at around 3:00 PM. Busingye, who was allegedly known for theft with several prior reports registered at Kihihi Police Station, was spotted by boda boda riders in possession of a motorcycle with no number plates, which they suspected to be stolen.
In response, the group reportedly apprehended and lynched him on the spot. Police were later notified and visited the scene, which was subsequently documented. Busingye’s body was transported to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
Authorities have since commenced inquiries to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the mob action. ASP Maate condemned the act and emphasized that justice must follow due process.
“Those involved will be brought to book and face the law accordingly,” he said.
