The search for 2-year-old Ninsima Elizabeth, who went missing on August 11, 2025, from her home in Rugunda Cell, Katojo Parish, Rutenga Sub-County, ended in tragedy. On the morning of August 27, 2025, her decomposed body was discovered floating in a nearby river, approximately 100 meters from her home.
The deceased was immediately identified as the missing child. The district police team, including canine units, visited the scene, but noted that it had been tampered with prior to their arrival. The body was retrieved and taken to Katate Health Center for a postmortem examination.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, which has now escalated from a missing child case to a suspected murder.
ASP Maate Elly, Police PRO for Kigezi, confirmed that inquiries are ongoing.
The Kanungu community has been urged to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in the investigation.
