Minister of Education, Janet Museveni, urged teachers on Thursday to actively participate in the fight against corruption, which has hampered the country’s development. Speaking through a message delivered by the State Minister for Education in charge of primary education, Joyce Kaducu, during the commissioning and laying of a foundation stone for the teachers’ SACCO building in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality, Janet Museveni emphasized the importance of teachers instilling patriotism in learners, fostering a love for their country.

She highlighted the significant damage caused to government properties by individuals who lack a sense of national pride. The First Lady assured that her ministry is diligently working to rehabilitate schools, with the welfare of teachers being a top priority for both the ministry and the government.

Transitioning to Kaducu’s remarks on education, she reiterated the importance of the education sector in fostering national development.

Jafari Basajjabalaba, the Bushenyi District chairman, appealed to the government to consider increasing salaries for all teachers, not just science teachers, as is currently the case. He noted that teachers, especially those in the arts field, are seeking early retirement due to unfavorable conditions.

Kafaku Kidon Willy, the chairman of the SACCO board, mentioned that the SACCO, established 20 years ago, has 2490 members. He outlined several challenges they face, including inadequate transportation facilities, insufficient liquidity, and difficulties in identifying donors.
