Following concerns raised by local leaders of Nyarwimuka parish in Ruhinda Sub County, Rukungiri district, regarding the increasing number of patients and inadequate health workers, as well as the absence of a maternity ward in their hard-to-reach area, Minister of Security and local legislator Jim Muhwezi has promised to address the issue.

During the belated Rukungiri district women’s day event held in Ruhinda sub-county, the Ruhinda sub-county chairperson, Hellen Kabajungu, emphasized the challenges faced by residents of Nyarwimuka parish due to its remote location. She expressed concern over the delay in Minister Muhwezi’s promised interventions, which has worried voters in the area.

Kabajungu urged the Minister to advocate for the upgrading of Nyabukumba Health Centre II to Health Centre III, which would provide better health services to the residents of Nyarwimuka parish. She highlighted the difficulties women face in accessing maternity services due to the long distances they must travel.

In response, Minister Muhwezi assured that efforts would be made to expedite the upgrading of Nyabukumba Health Centre II to Health Centre III status. He also pledged to work with fellow leaders to establish a maternity ward, pending government intervention, as part of the broader plan to elevate all Health Centre IIs to IIIs, with each being staffed by a doctor.

Recently, Boona FM aired a story featuring Gershom Murera, the LC2 Chairperson of Nyarwimuka parish, who accused the government of neglecting their parish in terms of social services despite being voters like other parishes in Rukungiri district. Murera emphasized the strain on the lone health worker at Nyabukumba Health Centre II and called for the upgrade of the health facility.
