The State Minister for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Honorable David Bahati, has urged Ugandans to prioritize peace during the festive season.

Minister Bahati made this appeal yesterday while addressing Christians at Nyangoyi Church of Uganda, Kasheregyenyi Parish, under Kamuganguzi Archdeaconry in Kamuganguzi Sub County, Ndorwa West, Kabale District.

Minister Bahati reminded the congregation that Christmas is a day dedicated to remembering Jesus Christ, who sacrificed himself on the cross for the forgiveness of sins. He encouraged Christians to rejoice and celebrate the day with their family members.

Minister Bahati further advised Christians to use the festive season as an opportunity to cultivate self-peace, peace with God, and peace with friends, emphasizing the importance of avoiding conflicts.

During the service, Reverend Just Ayebare, the Diocese of Kigezi treasurer, joined the call for positive action. He urged Christians to strive to alleviate poverty by working hard and cultivating perennial crops. Rev Ayebare emphasized the significance of growing crops that yield consistently, providing both sustenance and income to enhance the overall well-being of their households.

Rev Ayebare encouraged Christians to protect their soils from erosion and adopt sustainable farming methods to maintain fertility, ensuring bountiful harvests.

In an extraordinary pushback against Pope Francis, some Catholic bishops in Africa, Poland and elsewhere say they will not implement the new Vatican policy allowing blessings for same-sex couples.
