Honorable David Bahati, the State Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, responsible for Industry, has called upon the public to reflect on and appreciate the blessings that God has bestowed upon Ugandans, particularly acknowledging the prevailing peace and security.
Bahati, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Ndorwa West and holds the position of Chairperson for the NRM Kabale District, made this appeal while addressing a congregation during a Christmas church service at St. Mark Kakomo Church of Uganda, part of the Kikungiri Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Kigezi, Kabale District.
Speaking during the church service, Reverend Akatwijuka Warren emphasized the importance of love among Christians, urging them to support the implementation of government policies and programs to foster social and economic development.
As part of the Christmas appeal, Christians were requested to generously contribute to raise UGX 25 million. This amount is intended for paying workers’ salaries, tithing in St. Mark Kakoma Church of Uganda, and supporting various developmental projects within the Diocese of Kigezi.
Minister Bahati highlighted Uganda’s global reputation as a haven of peace in the region, attributing this stability to the effective leadership of the NRM led by President Museveni. He urged the public to cherish and embrace the peace facilitated by the NRM leadership, emphasizing its crucial role in promoting development and attracting investments.
Bahati pointed out that the prevailing peace has led to significant industrial growth, with over eight thousand industries now operating across the country, providing employment opportunities for many citizens. He also announced that the construction of the Kabale-Bunyonyi road, scheduled to commence in January 2024 with a budget of over UGX 250 billion, is a testament to the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.
The minister acknowledged delays in the road construction due to challenges in the procurement system. He assured the public that the government is actively working to streamline and expedite the procurement processes, citing the need for improved efficiency in infrastructure development projects.
