Residents in Mbarara district have been advised to stay vigilant during the upcoming festive season.

This caution comes in response to the district security committee’s initiative to enlist village vigilantes who will collaborate with law enforcement to reduce crime in the area.

Emmy Kateera Turyabagyenyi, the Resident District Commissioner of Mbarara district, emphasized that as the festive season approaches, there has been a notable increase in cases of livestock theft reported to his office.

He clarified that every village in the district will be responsible for selecting vigilantes, and this process will be overseen by the district security committee. The representative of the president also issued a stern warning, particularly directed at the youth who frequent bars during working hours.

They were urged to refrain from such behavior or face severe consequences.
