The Director of the Directorate of Professional Standards at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mrs. Francis Atima, said music, dance, and drama are effective tools for communication that nurture creativity among children.

Mrs. Atima made the remarks while representing the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports, Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, at the official opening of the National Primary Schools’ Music, Dance, and Drama Festival at Mbarara High School in Mbarara City. The festival is scheduled to close on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Commenting on road safety education, Mrs. Atima emphasized that since education is a shared responsibility, head teachers and parents should act as “police” in protecting children, who are often overloaded on their way to and from school, a situation that compromises their safety.

Speaking at the same function, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Mbarara, Mrs. Catherine Hellen Kamwine, noted that the festival will run for a full week at Mbarara High School. She said the authorities in Mbarara City are proud to host the event and welcome everyone to the community, which she described as hospitable.

Mrs. Kamwine thanked the government and the Ministry of Education and Sports for choosing Mbarara City as the host of this year’s National Primary Schools’ Music, Dance, and Drama Festival.

The Headmaster of Mbarara High School, Mr. Ham Ahimbisibwe, said all participating primary schools are actively engaged at various stages, with performances taking place at both Mbarara High School and Mbarara Junior School. He explained that the competitions will continue throughout the week and climax on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Mr. Ahimbisibwe commended the government for its involvement in promoting the talents of young pupils in primary schools, noting that such talents will further develop as learners progress to secondary education.

The General Manager of Safe Way, Right Way, under the sponsorship of TotalEnergies Uganda, Ms. Namuyiga Irene, said their decision to sponsor the National Primary Schools’ Music, Dance, and Drama Festival was aimed at enhancing road safety awareness and learning among children.
