Members of the social services committee in the Rukungiri Municipal Council yesterday shunned the committee meeting that was to be chaired by the new committee chairperson.
Initially, the committee chairperson was Kaijukuru Viane a representative of Kitimba ward in the Municipal council who says that he joined the position on the day of swearing as a councilor.
Kaijukuru who was replaced by the Karangaro ward representative Love Turinawe in the council that sat on 30th June 2023 says the way he was removed from the position of the social services committee chairperson was not by the law, noting that it was so abrupt and it was not on the order paper.
It is remembered that during the council, the Rukungiri Municipality boss Charles Makuru abruptly raised the issue of making reshuffles in committee leadership.
Viane accuses Makuru of being in a deal of replacing competent leaders with those who can accept his dictatorial directive and help him to achieve his lawless deals.
A section of this social service committee members also accuse the mayor of bringing garbage privatization which has never passed in their committee yet it one of their roles.
They say the disagreements between committee members and the Mayor have led to the flopping of two committee meetings which they say is jeopardizing social services in the municipality.
According to Constance Tumusiimr the Rukungiri Municipality speaker, the reshuffles were made in the last council sitting where all committee chairpersons were changed, but she did not divulge the actual cause of these reshuffles.
Our reporter tried to reach Mayor Makuru about the issue through his phone number but he didn’t give any response on the matter.
