The Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament (WMP) NRM flag bearer, Hon. Turyahikayo Kebirungi Mary Paula, has called on voters in Nyarushanje and Nyakishenyi sub-counties to ignore propaganda and endorse capable leaders who can effectively deliver essential services, as residents decried the scarcity of basic services in their areas.
As the forthcoming General Elections draw closer, the former Rubabo Member of Parliament, who is now the Rukungiri District WMP NRM flag bearer, Hon. Turyahikayo Kebirungi Mary Paula, together with Andrewson Katebire Charles, the Rukungiri District LC5 NRM flag bearer, today campaigned at Kigarama Primary School in Ngoma Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub-county, before proceeding to Nyarushanje Sub-county, where they held rallies in Ruyonza and Ndago parishes, delivering a message of endorsing all NRM flag bearers.
Residents accorded the candidates a warm reception and expressed gratitude. Speaking during the rallies, residents voiced their regrets and frustrations, apologizing to Hon. Mary Paula for electing other leaders in the 2021 elections, whom they blamed for failing to deliver services as expected. Having been led by Hon. Mary Paula as area MP for 15 years, they praised her for delivering essential services, especially electricity extension, water projects, support programs for youths and women, and fighting corruption.
Residents said that in the five years since she left office, services have remained at a standstill from where Hon. Mary Paula stopped. They therefore welcomed her return as District WMP and endorsed her together with Katebire Andrewson Charles, President Museveni, and other NRM flag bearers ahead of the forthcoming General Elections.
The Rukungiri District LC5 Chairperson and NRM flag bearer, Katebire Andrewson Charles, while speaking during the rallies, thanked residents for trusting him with their votes during the NRM primaries. He, however, asked for more support ahead of the forthcoming General Elections, urging voters to give him a cooperative leadership combination powered by Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, President Museveni, and other NRM flag bearers to ensure faster and effective service delivery.
Meanwhile, the Rukungiri District WMP NRM flag bearer, Hon. Turyahikayo Kebirungi Mary Paula, while addressing rallies in Nyakishenyi and Nyarushanje sub-counties, thanked residents for their overwhelming support during the NRM primary elections. Responding to their concerns over the scarcity of services, she assured them that solutions would be realized after endorsing her in the forthcoming General Elections together with President Museveni and all NRM flag bearers.
She warned voters to be vigilant during this election season and cautioned them against leaders who prioritize personal interests instead of service delivery. She condemned the act of distributing money to confuse voters, describing it as dangerous, since such leaders tend to disappear after elections. She urged voters, especially the youth who are the main targets, to take the money if offered but vote for leaders who are capable of representing their interests and lobbying for essential services in Parliament.
Addressing residents who have already tested her service delivery capacity, Hon. Mary Paula pledged that if elected, she would continue extending electricity to all unserved areas, address water scarcity by stabilizing the Kahengye Water Project, improve roads—especially the Kebisoni–Kisizi road—and support youths, women groups, and other vulnerable people. She said these efforts would elevate Rukungiri District to another level of development.
