The Judicial Service Commission has disclosed that a significant number of individuals granted court bail fail to return to claim the money they deposited for bail.

This statement was made by Mr. Samuel Mugisa Registrar of Legal Education, Public Affairs and Research in the Judicial Service Commission during a one-day meeting with media practitioners in Rukungiri district at the Rukungiri magistrate courtroom on Friday.

The meeting, organized by the Judicial Service Commission, aimed to provide journalists with updated information on how they can collaborate with the organization to disseminate justice-related information.

Mr. Mugisa mentioned that even individuals who have been convicted by the court and have paid bail money should revisit the court to request their money, as long as they have not missed court sessions.

The official also highlighted that many people in Uganda are currently not seeking justice through legal channels but are resorting to violence, which is contributing to the rising crime rates in the country. As a result, he urged the public to always seek justice from the courts, emphasizing that these institutions were established to provide justice to the citizens.

In their role as a body responsible for overseeing the performance of judicial officers, the official urged the public to report any misconduct by judicial officers to the Judicial Service Commission to ensure discipline and promote equality and justice in the country.

Furthermore, he pointed out that many people lack knowledge about the law and encouraged media practitioners to educate the public on the significance of these institutions, which were established by the government to assist Ugandans.

The official called upon media practitioners to use their platforms to promote justice in Rukungiri district and raise awareness among the public regarding the use of court institutions to resolve disputes, particularly those that cannot be resolved through negotiation or face-to-face interactions.

He also advised married couples facing issues causing domestic violence to seek legal guidance from the courts rather than resorting to violence when seeking separation.
