Authorities in Mitooma District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 40-year-old man who reportedly took his own life by drowning.

Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Rwamasika Rodgers, a resident of Rumumba cell in Kilembe Parish, Katenga sub-county, Mitooma District.

The incident came to light on December 8, 2023, when Anthony, residing at the same address, discovered Rodgers’ body floating in the Katereza River, which forms the border between Mitooma and Bushenyi Districts. Anthony promptly reported the discovery to Kanyeihamba Deogratias, a 66-year-old individual identified as the deceased’s father, who then reported the incident to the police.

Tumusiime mentioned that at the scene, a plastic bottle containing waragi was found near the wooden bridge a short distance from the body. Additionally, the deceased had a minor scratch on the right shoulder. The body has been transported to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for a postmortem examination, while investigations into the incident are currently underway.
