Authorities in Rukungiri are currently in pursuit of a 43-year-old individual named Nankunda Marisiari, who stands accused of the murder of his 78-year-old biological mother, Elena Bakeihahwenki. The incident occurred on the night of 06/12/2023 around 21:00hrs at their residence in Kibombo cell, Nyakina parish, Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri district.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly assaulted his mother within her bedroom using her own walking sticks, under circumstances that are not yet clear. At the time, the victim was in the company of her young grandchildren – Akanyijuka Ivan, Kiconco Denise, and Turyatemba Grace. The distress caused by the assault prompted her other son, Karugaba Elias, to intervene, but he too became a victim of the suspect’s aggression. Subsequently, Karugaba Elias fled to a nearby coffee plantation and went missing.
On 07/12/2023, at approximately 15:00hrs, as Karugaba and others were preparing to transport the victim to the hospital, they discovered her lifeless in her bed. The incident was promptly reported to the Buyanja police station, leading to the registration of a murder case. The crime scene was thoroughly investigated, and the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem examination.
The ongoing inquiry aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder and locate the wanted suspect, Nankunda Marisiari.
