Territorial police in Kisoro District have launched a manhunt for two unidentified assailants who allegedly robbed cash and mobile phones from five people on Wednesday night in Natete village, Chihe parish, Nyakinama sub-county.

The robbery occurred at around 10:00 PM on June 5, 2025, as the victims were socializing at a local shop owned by Irankunda Rogers, a 30-year-old businessman. According to police reports, the suspects—one armed with an AK-47 rifle and another wearing a face mask—stormed the premises and ordered the victims to lie down and surrender their belongings.

The victims include: Irankunda Rogers, shop and produce store owner; Kamugisha Gideon, 52, businessman,Kiizakola Silvan, 36, businessman, Busekuro Stephen, 41, businessman; and Ssebahima Edward, 42, peasant farmer.

    The robbers made off with over 3.4 million shillings in cash and several mobile phones. A warning shot was fired into the air when the victims hesitated, prompting them to comply out of fear for their lives. The unarmed suspect further raided Irankunda’s shop and stole a polythene bag containing 800,000 shillings before the duo fled the scene while firing more shots.

    Local residents immediately alerted the District Police Commander, SP Nuwamanya, who responded to the scene alongside a joint patrol team, UPDF officers, and a canine unit.

    According to Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly, the scene of crime was documented thoroughly. Police recovered three cartridges, two live bullets, and one projectile from the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

    CCTV footage from Irankunda’s shop, which captured the robbery, is being reviewed to aid investigations. Police are urging the public to share any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.

    Investigations are ongoing.
