Police in Mitooma District are currently seeking a middle-aged man following accusations of murder.
The incident occurred on March 25th, 2024, around 10:00 PM, at Karangara Trading Centre in Karangara Parish, Bitereko Sub County, Mitooma District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the event and identified the deceased as Christmas Vereliano, aged 30, a resident of the aforementioned address.
The suspect, James Byamugisha, also a middle-aged resident of the same area, has been identified by the police.
On March 24th, 2024, the deceased and the suspect were at Moses Twijukye’s bar, drinking. Around 9:00 PM, an argument ensued between them over a phone that the suspect had borrowed from the deceased.
The altercation escalated, leading to a physical struggle between the two in the middle of the road within the trading center. The suspect then obtained a club from nearby and used it to strike the deceased on the head and chest, leaving him incapacitated on the ground before fleeing the scene.
Following the assault, the deceased reported the incident to LC1 Chairman Muhangi Tito, who attempted to intervene by arranging for the deceased to receive first aid this morning.
Unfortunately, the deceased passed away on the way to the hospital as he was being transported to a waiting vehicle.
