Police in Sheema District are currently in pursuit of a middle-aged man accused of murder and aggravated robbery.

The suspect, Mizafaru Mutebi, a casual worker residing in Kisoroza cell, Kareera South ward, Kashozi Division, Sheema Municipality, Sheema District, is currently evading arrest.

The incident was confirmed by Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police. The victim, identified as Imelda Mwigarire, a 65-year-old housewife from Kimondo 2 cell, Marembo ward, Kitagata town council, Sheema District, was allegedly murdered by the suspect. Mutebi had reportedly begun working as a domestic worker at the deceased’s home on Sunday, January 14, 2024.

The alarm was raised on Thursday when the victim and the suspect were not seen, leading to the husband of the deceased, John Rwomushana, a 70-year-old businessman from Kasese, reporting a disappearance case at Kitagata police station. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the kitchen was locked with two padlocks. Upon breaking the door, authorities found the lifeless body of Imelda Mwigarire in a pool of blood.

Tumusiime added that various items, including a flat screen and hoofers, were stolen by the suspect. The body has been transported to Kitagata hospital for a postmortem examination. The police are actively seeking Mizafaru Mutebi to bring him to justice for the alleged murder and robbery.
