Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of North Kigezi diocese has expressed concern over the rising instances of immorality, particularly fornication, among the youth, adversely impacting them. His comments were made during the conclusion of a three-day youth conference at Kashenyi Archdeaconry in Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri district.

Drawing from his extensive experience working with youth at various levels, including serving as the Church of Uganda provincial youth coordinator for five years and as the chaplain at Makerere University, Bishop Asiimwe highlighted the pressing issues faced by today’s youth. He decried the disturbing trend of relatives and parents engaging in inappropriate relationships with their daughters. He also called out university-level educators, especially lecturers, who exploit female students by demanding intimate favors for academic success, stressing the need for such practices to cease in order to foster a moral society.

Bishop Asiimwe additionally cautioned the youth against indulging in tribalism and discrimination, urging them to champion unity for the advancement of the church and the gospel of Christ.

Ven. James Busigye, the Archdeacon of Kashenyi Archdeaconry, emphasized that these youth conferences are organized to guide young individuals back onto the right path as they prepare to return to school. The conference, attended by over 1800 youth from six parishes under Kashenyi Archdeaconry, featured speakers like Dr. Peace Mukombe, who encouraged the youth to uphold discipline and utilize their time wisely both at home and in school.

Ord. Nicholas Turyahabwenebirugyi, the Kashenyi Archdeaconry youth leader, and other attendees acknowledged the valuable lessons learned during the conference, such as decision-making, fostering healthy relationships, reading the Bible, and the importance of prayer for a successful life. They encouraged fellow youth to actively participate in such conferences to nurture moral uprightness and personal growth.
