Police in Mitooma District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the lynching of a 32-year-old man by a mob. The incident occurred on January 16, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM in Bitooma 2 cell, Bitooma Parish, Katenga sub-county, Mitooma District.
The spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi police, Marcial Tumusiime, has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Frank Kijana, a 32-year-old casual worker residing at the mentioned address.
Reportedly, Kijana was suspected of stealing cattle along with two goats and was being tracked by a police sniffer dog. However, he managed to evade arrest when confronted by the police officers.
According to Jackson Kashaija, a 79-year-old who reported the case to the police, the victim reappeared later that day and was subsequently lynched by a mob.
Tumusiime revealed that the victim’s body displayed multiple injuries and a cut on the forehead. The body has been transported to Kitagata Hospital in Sheema District for postmortem examination.
